The PhD admission workshop is organized for potential applicants who want to join the PhD-in-Statistics program of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in August 2027. Undergraduate students or master students who will graduate or have graduated before August 2027 are most welcome to apply.

CUHK is ranked No. 32 in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. Department of Statistics and Data Science in CUHK, established in 1982, has world-class researchers from diverse areas: Actuarial Science, Mathematical Finance and Risk Management Science; Big Data Analytics; Biostatistics and Bioinformatics; Statistical Theory and Methodology; Statistics in Education, Policy and Social Sciences, as well as Other Interdisciplinary and Collaborative Research. Schedule: The admission workshop will be held online on July 27, 2026. Tentative schedules include Introduction of the department; Introduction of the PhD program; Introduction of awards and opportunities, e.g. HKPFS; Research sharing; Individual meeting with potential supervisors.
Eligibility: Applicants shall have got or will get a Bachelor degree by August 2027, and have studied with at least 5 mathematics or statistics courses. The current overall GPA shall be no less than 3.4/4.0, unless you have research publication(s).
Benefit: Strong applicants will be invited for admission interview shortly after the workshop, and early admission offer with full financial support will be given. They may also be recommended for HKPFS (https://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/admissions/scholarships-fees/hkpfs). All attendees will know how we select applicants for PhD admission and how we do research.
