CUHK-Statistics Online PhD Admission Workshop 2022
August 8th - 10th, 2022
The PhD admission workshop is organized for potential applicants who want to join the PhD-in-Statistics program of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in August 2023. Undergraduate students or master students who will graduate or have graduated before August 2023 are most welcome to apply.
CUHK, founded in 1963, is a comprehensive research university with a global vision and a mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together the East and the West. CUHK is ranked No. 39 in the 2022 QS World University Ranking. Department of Statistics in CUHK, established in 1982, has world-class researchers from diverse areas: Statistical Theory and Methodology; Big Data Analytics; Biostatistics and Bioinformatics; Actuarial Science, Mathematical Finance and Risk Management Science; Statistics in Education, Policy and Social Sciences; Other Interdisciplinary and Collaborative Research. Admitted students have the freedom to choose their supervisors based on mutual agreement by the end of their first year study. GRE score is not required for application. Schedule: The admission workshop will be held online from August 8th to August 10th, 2022. Morning sessions include: Introduction of the PhD program; Introduction of awards and opportunities, e.g. HKPFS; Research Seminars; Discussions; Sharing from current PhD students; Admission Interview. Afternoon sessions include: small project; meet your target supervisors.
Eligibility: Applicants shall have got or will get a Bachelor degree by August 2023, and have studied with at least 5 mathematics or statistics courses. The current overall GPA shall be no less than 3.4/4.0, unless you have research publication(s).
Benefit: Chosen students will get our early admission offer with full financial support right after the workshop. They will also be recommended for HKPFS (https://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/admissions/scholarships-fees/hkpfs). Students who performed well in discussions or projects will get an award certificate, which can be used for our regular admission application or applying other institutes. All attendees will know how we select applicants for PhD admission and how we do research.
